In the spotlight with Nikki McComskey

During the summer we would like to put our staff members in the spotlight to give you an insight in who we are and what we are doing behind the scenes. Since we are all working in a cultural organisation, looking to engage people with the arts, I decided to ask some creative questions too. Enjoy getting to know Nikki McComskey a little bit better.

What is your role within Droichead Arts Centre?
Marketing Administrator

What’s your favourite part of your job?
Every day is different and I love dealing with the artists and the Press.

What is the greatest challenge in your job?
Well, at this point it is the selling of seats, people don’t have as much disposable income and you have to have something really special to make them spend.

What is the most fun thing you have ever done, working with Droichead Arts Centre?
Walking across West Street with Bernard who was dressed as a Town Crier and watching people’s reaction was pretty fun, also working the night of the Burlesque Show was really fun.

What was the best event in Droichead Arts Centre you have ever attended?
So many things I have enjoyed, ‘On the Black Hill’ was such a beautiful piece of theatre, ‘Oliver’ at Christmas was fantastic and ‘Madame Silk’ because I had never been to anything like that before.

What is the highlight for you in Droichead Arts Centre this year?
Well we are finishing off our Summer Programme with two outdoor events which I am excited about; we are booking some great things for the latter half of the year so watch this space!!!

Why is art and culture so important to you?
We as a society need both art and culture because without them there is no conversation!!

Which cultural person, living or dead, would you like to have a drink with?
I am a big fan of Maya Angelou the American writer so some time with her would be fantastic.

If you could only see black and white except for one colour, what colour would you choose to see?
Aqua, that mixture of green and blue appeals to me all the time; my eye is always drawn to it, maybe because I am an Aquarian and a water sign.

What was the best concert you ever attended?
It’s hard to choose. I love big productions and smaller intimate venues. The first time I saw U2 was spectacular. Reggae star Luciano in the Olympia in Dublin was great because we got to go backstage with him. Jill Scott in the Jazz Café in Camden was wicked too.

Can you describe Droichead Arts Centre in 3 words?

Wacky, Weird, Wonderful…..
All in a good way!!
